Raber Public Library will dedicate its computer center June 21 to Joe Schmoe, formerly homeless patron who used free resources at the library to gain essential job skills.
The library would like to honor Schmoe for recently being hired at Amalgamated Data.
The dedication ceremony will not just honor Schmoe but will highlight the value of the free computer classes and the other services the library provides the homeless.
Following the ceremony the library will hold a reception with hors d'oeuvres, desserts and punch.
The Raber Public Library has provided many services to help the homeless like providing business cards printed with phone numbers and addresses for the local homeless shelter, food pantry, public transportation, family intervention center, mental health services, and temporary job services. In the past year the library has doubled its production of the business cards from 75 to 150.
The library also acts as a homeless shelter so they can get out of the cold and a place to bring their children to a safe and quiet place to read.
The library finally has a hat and mittens box near the entrance that anyone can take advantage of if they cannot afford a hat or gloves.
Other patrons say the homeless don't bother them. Other patrons have the biggest problem with people talking on their cell phone really loud.
